Raducanu names his house Harry Potter Hogwarts…

I’d be in Slytherin for sure. I just think, you know, they don’t have a big rep, but I think they’re very, hmm, nice. They have a bit of a mysterious side to them, and I like that.

Goodnight!

Hello and welcome to coverage of the Citi Open as Emma Raducanu continues her campaign against Camila Osorio.

The British No. 1 returned to action this week in Washington, a month after her early departure at Wimbledon to Caroline Garcia. With the grass season over, Raducanu’s focus is now on the US Open, where she is, of course, the reigning champion.

The 19-year-old made a good start at the Citi Open on Tuesday, beating Louisa Chirico 6-4, 6-2. Watching from the stands was her mother Renee, and Raducanu said he loved having her around.

“It’s great to have my mom around,” she said. “She doesn’t necessarily spend most of her time with me, but she’s just like any mother. She gets all over me if I’m on my phone, if I go to bed too late, if I’m eating too many cupcakes, but she’s also pretty good. She always insists on doing my laundry, we are hand drying in the hotel room, but it is so much fun to have her traveling with me.”

Reflecting on matters on the court, Raducanu expressed his relief at having been through a difficult match.

“I think I definitely had moments in the match where I was playing good tennis, but I was nervous at first, I think, for sure,” she said. “I think playing any first round is always very challenging. So, you know, when you’re not necessarily that sharp, you know, little things that you don’t necessarily get right. It’s just important, you know, to stay calm.

“I think it’s something I can do better in this tournament, hopefully in the next round, because, yeah, there were a few moments where I got a little hectic, but I definitely regrouped and found a way toward the end.”
