I Tried Old Navy Matching Outfits For Humans And Their Furry Friends

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m completely in love with my dog, Cooper. He’s a sassy 2-year-old corgi who’s obsessed with playing ball and anything chicken-flavored – plus he’s no stranger to a fashion photo shoot. So, while perusing Old Navy’s newcomers recently, I came across a discovery too important to keep: Old Navy has matching clothes for humans and their furry friends – and they’re ridiculously cute. Step into the Linen Blend Sleeveless Print Maxi Shift Dress ($38, originally $45) and Printed T-Shirt and Headband Set ($10, originally $18), both starring the retailer’s “Blue Gingham” pattern . Ahead, get my full review on the matching parts.

What I like about this Maxi dress and set

Finding these matching sets was a happy accident. While checking out what’s new in the retailer’s pet section, I noticed that the printed t-shirt and headband set mentioned above had “Match the Fam” written next to the pattern’s name. From there, I searched for “Blue Gingham” in the Old Navy search box and a tonne of populated pieces, including women’s tops and dresses, men’s shirts and children’s items as well. I was drawn to this maxi dress in particular for a few reasons: not only is it the perfect summer print, but I’m obsessed with linen and the long dress.

When I put it in real life, I was just as pleased. Linen-rayon blend is lightweight, breathable and comfortable. As for the fit, it’s breezy (without looking or feeling big), which is a godsend in scorching temperatures. Considering all the elements of this dress, I think it’s the quintessential summer dress; one that is in fashion (hello, country house) and timeless.

We need to touch Cooper’s outfit too, of course. I love how it comes with a t-shirt and bandana for $10. Even though the two pieces are worn together in marketing photos, I think I’ll choose one or the other to keep him from feeling uncomfortable. I ordered a medium size (he weighs 32 pounds, FYI) on both the shirt and the bandana and thought we made the perfect choice.

what is worth noting

I ordered this dress in my usual size medium size, and it fit my hips but felt a little big in the chest area. Other Old Navy buyers mentioned that they also had some issues with sizing; a handful of reviewers mentioned that it was too tight on the hips or chest. That said, if you can’t see yourself without this dress, you might want to buy two sizes to determine which one fits you best.

Another thing worth noting is that I would say this dress is more of a weekend vibe than a weekday. It features a V-neckline and leg slits that some may not find suitable for the office. But if you work from home like I do, don’t worry!

A final note: this maxi dress also comes in a super chic neutral shade – the only downside is that the color isn’t available in the doggie version.

Who are these parts for?

I think this maxi dress is best for the girl who is looking for a versatile sundress that can be dressed up or down. I paired it with my Old Navy Linen-Blend Platform Sandals ($40) and a matching mini bag, but I also think it would go well with sneakers or heels. And maybe it goes without saying, but the doggie shirt and bandana are best for puppies (or cats, maybe?) who don’t mind getting dressed up for a day on the town.
