The Duke of Cambridge was photographed with a Big Issue salesman in a series of photos released to mark his 40th birthday.

William is pictured with his arm around the shoulder of Dave Martin, 60, who took him under his wing earlier this month and showed him how to sell the magazine that gives income to the homeless.

His landmark birthday falls in the year of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and, reflecting his grandmother’s commitment to duty and service, he vowed to continue to raise the issue of homelessness in an article for the Big Issue.

“So, for my part, I pledge to continue doing what I can to highlight this solvable issue not just today, but for months and years to come,” wrote the duke who is the cover star of the magazine along with Martin. .

He added: “And in the years to come, I look forward to bringing George, Charlotte and Louis to see the fantastic organizations doing inspiring work to support those most in need – just like my mother did for me.”

In another photo released to commemorate the Duke’s milestone, he is shown holding a stack of magazines, and in the third image, he is photographed laughing with someone who appears to be buying the publication.

Over the next decade, the role of the future king will become more prominent as he supports the monarchy.

The past 12 months have been an important period for the Duke who, in October, held the inaugural awards ceremony for his ambitious Earthshot Prize – a 10-year, £50 million project to recognize innovative ideas to repair the planet.
